There are two types of romance in the world…

Happy Valentines Day (Belated, since I was in Vegas for the annual WPPI conference over the Valentine’s weekend)! Flowers, kisses, chocolates, teddy bears, cards, and jewelry – this is  how majority of the world view romance. This is half correct! There are two types of romantics in this world: fairytale romance & practical romance. Fairytale romance is full of big gestures (whisking, flowers, jewelry, happily ever after). Then there is practical romance which is lots of little gestures, thing that can easily go unnoticed if you do not pay close enough attention. Which type are you?

Tim and I have never been really big into celebrating Valentines days, so this year was no different. When I was packing my bags to head to Vegas, full of lots of unnecessary items (including many outfits that were never worn – Hey I am a girl and like to have options!), an idea came across my mind. A way to make Tim love & miss me even more while I was gone, more then he already would….the perfect balance in between a delicious treat and bliss (for him anyways). I grabbed my phone, sent over a text to my good friend Shirley, attached some cash to an envelope addressed to Tim, ran up a few flights of stairs, and slid it under Shirley’s door. Brilliant! One of Tim’s favorite things in the whole wide world is ice cream – so what would be more brilliant then that to sooth his missing Chantal heart! Shirley was to take the money, go to Dairy Queen on Valentines day, pick up a small ice cream cake, and deliver the envelope and cake to Tim on Valentines day. While enjoying myself in Vegas with lots of amazing photographers at the annual WPPI conference, my mind would sometimes wonder back to Tim and his surprise ice cream cake – wondering his reaction. Needless to say, that when I returned a few days after Valentines day, majority of the cake had been devoured – but as per my request a little piece had my name on it. I am a practical romantic.

While I was away Tim, Shirley and Lance (good friends of ours) wanted to do a little of their own Vegas-ing and went to the casino. Tim and Lance love to play the craps table (quite the name for a game I must say!). Shirley also joined in, and they all went home happy a few hundred dollars richer. One of my favorite things in the whole world is ‘nice’ jeans – a pair of Rock&Republics perhaps. I have been talking of getting another pair for a while now – and bc they are an investment (oh ya I said investment) I had to babble on and on about it for months and months. When I got home from Vegas, I was greeted with a smiling Tim and a brand spanking new pair of Rock& Republic jeans. Now Tim really knows how to get a girls heart! I would much rather get some great jeans then flowers or jewelry any day! Add in a pair of shoes and I am a happy girl. Tim is also a practical romantic – he spent his whole casino winnings on great jeans.

I used to think that grand gestures were what I wanted, but over the years I have come to realize that I appreciate the small things so much more.
